Worksheets

A drawing, a model, and a worksheet are not three separate sources of information. They are three ways of seeing and shaping the same project. Corvus makes worksheets live and bidirectional, so a change made in a table changes the project, and a change made to the project appears in the table. Schedule doors, rooms, finishes, furniture, materials, quantities, costs, or anything else the project knows. Stop exporting information just to work with it, and stop reconciling copies that should never have become separate in the first place.

A worksheet should simply be another way of working on the project.

A worksheet is more than a report generated from the model. It is another live view onto the same underlying information. Look at a project spatially in a drawing, volumetrically in a model, or systematically in rows and columns. Each representation reveals something different, but none becomes a separate copy. Move naturally between them according to the work you need to do.

Change the worksheet and you change the project.

Edit a door width in the model and its value changes in the door schedule. Change that width in the schedule and the door itself changes. Reassign a finish from a worksheet and the room reflects it. Update a room name on the plan and the worksheet follows. Bidirectionality is not an import, export, or synchronization command in Corvus. You are simply editing the same project from a different point of view.

Stop exporting the truth just to work with it.

The moment project information gets exported to a spreadsheet, another version of the truth begins. Someone changes the model. Someone else changes the spreadsheet. A PDF gets emailed. Another person works from last week's attachment. Before long, the team is comparing documents to determine which one is right. Corvus keeps the worksheet inside the project, so working with information never requires separating it from the geometry that produced it.

There is no latest worksheet. There is only the worksheet.

Schedules change constantly because projects change constantly. Corvus keeps them current as the work evolves. When a room moves, an area changes. When a door disappears, the count changes. When a material changes, the finish schedule changes with it. Everyone with access to the project can work from the same current information instead of asking who has the latest spreadsheet, PDF, attachment, or revision.

Work with hundreds of objects as easily as one.

Sometimes the fastest way to understand a project is not one object at a time. A worksheet can expose hundreds or thousands of doors, windows, rooms, finishes, fixtures, furniture pieces, materials, or other objects together. Compare them, sort them, filter them, select them, and edit them in groups. The worksheet turns the project inside out, making relationships and inconsistencies visible that can be difficult to see in a drawing or model.

A worksheet should work as fluidly as a spreadsheet.

Working with building information should not mean giving up everything that makes a spreadsheet useful. Sort and filter. Copy and paste. Fill across many cells. Select ranges. Add columns. Resize and reorder them. Group information. Calculate values. Format the table. Edit one value or hundreds at once. Corvus combines familiar spreadsheet fluency with information that remains natively connected to the project.

If the project knows it, you should be able to schedule it.

Doors and windows are only the beginning. Create room schedules, finish schedules, furniture schedules, equipment schedules, fixture schedules, lighting schedules, material schedules, area schedules, quantity takeoffs, cost tables, code analyses, programming tables, drawing registers, or something entirely specific to your practice. A worksheet can bring together any information the project contains without forcing every project into the same predetermined set of tables.

Add the column you need without programming the project first.

A worksheet should not become a technical exercise every time you need another piece of information. Add a field, rearrange a column, create a calculation, combine information, or build a new view of the project without first engineering an elaborate system of parameters and workarounds. Start with the information you need. Let the structure grow naturally as the project becomes more sophisticated.

Numbers can calculate themselves.

A worksheet should do more than display information. Calculate areas, totals, percentages, quantities, counts, costs, ratios, averages, and other values directly from project data. Build formulas from values already carried by objects, spaces, materials, and geometry. As the project changes, the calculations follow. Stop reaching for a separate spreadsheet every time the information needs to do some arithmetic.

A material schedule should actually show you the material.

Architecture is visual, but schedules often reduce visual things to words and codes. Corvus worksheets can include images, material swatches, object thumbnails, symbols, patterns, and other graphic information alongside text and numbers. A wallpaper schedule can show the wallpaper. A furniture schedule can show the furniture. A finish schedule can show the finish. The worksheet can communicate the thing itself, not merely the name assigned to it.

Bring your library directly into the worksheet.

The objects and materials in your library already carry useful information. Let the worksheet reveal it. Manufacturer, product, dimensions, material, finish, color, cost, specification, notes, images, and other attributes can travel with the object rather than being typed into another table. Change the underlying library information and connected worksheets can follow, preserving knowledge instead of recreating it project by project.

Let quantities come directly from the work.

If the project contains 127 doors, the worksheet should not depend on someone remembering to type 127. Counts, areas, lengths, volumes, materials, and other measurable quantities can come directly from the geometry and objects they describe. Filter them by type, location, phase, material, status, or another meaningful property. When the design changes, the quantities change with it.

Let every phase tell the right story.

The same project can contain what exists, what will be demolished, what is new, what is temporary, and what comes later. Worksheets can reflect those states just as drawings and models do. See the doors that exist today, the doors removed during demolition, the doors installed in the next phase, or the final count after construction. Time belongs to the project, so schedules should understand it too.

Find the exception hiding among a thousand rows.

Worksheets are powerful because they reveal patterns. Sort doors by width and the odd one appears. Group rooms by finish and an inconsistency becomes obvious. Filter objects with missing information and see what still needs attention. Compare quantities across floors, phases, or types. Corvus makes the worksheet a tool for understanding and checking the project, not merely documenting it after the decisions have already been made.

Make schedules beautiful without rebuilding them somewhere else.

A working table and a published schedule should not require two different workflows. Control typography, hierarchy, spacing, borders, alignment, images, headers, grouping, pagination, and graphic treatment directly in Corvus. Work with the information as a worksheet, then present the same live information as part of a drawing set, report, or presentation without exporting it somewhere else just to make it look good.

Put the same information on the page without freezing it in time.

A schedule placed on a drawing sheet should remain connected to the worksheet behind it. Format it for the page, determine what it shows, and control how it breaks across sheets without turning live project information into a static artifact. When the project changes, the schedule can remain current. Presentation should change how information looks, not sever where it came from.

Give everyone the same answer to “What is current?”

Architects, interior designers, engineers, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and clients may each need different views of the same project information. Give them the rows, columns, filters, and level of detail appropriate to their work without creating independent copies to maintain. Different people can see the project differently while continuing to work from the same underlying truth.

Stop coordinating the project with itself.

Architects spend countless hours checking that drawings agree with models, schedules agree with drawings, spreadsheets agree with schedules, PDFs agree with spreadsheets, and the latest revision agrees with whatever someone downloaded last week. Much of that coordination exists only because the same information has been allowed to split into separate artifacts. Corvus brings it back together.
